Frederic Ambroisine studied mathematics and filmmaking in Paris, and was trained as a stuntman by the Figlarz Action Crew (BABYLON A.D., LARGO WINCH). He became a film critic in 2000 for the website DVDRAMA/EXCESSIF and since 2002 he has written for several French genre cinema magazines including MAD MOVIES, KUMITE, ASIA PULP, MAD ASIA, SCORE ASIA and COYOTE. In 2003 Frederic began working as a director for the SHAW BROTHERS DVD collection distributed by WILD SIDE FILMS. He has interviewed hundreds of Hong Kong artists and made more than 60 short documentaries related to kung-fu classics such as THE 36TH CHAMBER OF SHAOLIN, THE ONE-ARMED SWORDSMAN, COME DRINK WITH ME, KING BOXER, THE 14 AMAZONS and THE 8 DIAGRAM POLE FIGHTER. He has also directed around 70 short documentaries about recent Hong Kong movies including the INFERNAL AFFAIRS trilogy, ONE NITE IN MONGKOK, P.T.U., DUMPLINGS, S.P.L., DOG BITE DOG, SHAMO and MAD DETECTIVE. In 2009, he produced and directed his first feature-length documentary, FICA: FROM THE NEAR EAST TO THE FAR EAST, which premiered in France in January 2010.
